Born in Como, April 26, 1957, Italian citizen.
He has been in Italian Power system research centres since 1990, when he joined CISE S.p.A. In 1998 he joined ENEL Research (SRI), in the area of Supervision control systems. As a result of the liberalization process, in 2000 he joined CESI and in 2006 the Power systems Economics department of CESI RICERCA, established at the end of 2005 as a separate company.
He is member of CIGRE C4.47 on Power system resilience and convenor of Italian Electrotechnical Committee CT65A on Functional Safety. In C4.47 he contributed to the CIGRE resilience definition (E. Ciapessoni, et al. CIGRE Reference paper - Defining Power System Resilience - ELECTRA No. 306 - October 2019)
He serves as Italian delegate of IEC TC 65 on security and safety of control and protection systems. He is member of IEC SC65A WG on Safe Software and WG on Functional Safety of Programmable Electronic Systems) and of IEC SC65C WG on security of system and of security and safety of industrial communication.
He is convenor of CEI WG on functional safety of systems.
He also provided consultancy services to the Italian regulatory Authority for electric Energy and Gas in power system resilience and several energy related topics.
Currently he is Leading Scientist at RSE (Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico S.p.A.) and member of Scientific Committee of RSE.
His research interests include power system resilience and security, risk analysis and mitigation, wide area monitoring protection and control, restoration.
Since 1990 he has started and managed several national and international projects on power system, dealing with the development and application of innovative approaches for system resilience and risk management.
In recent years he coordinated GSA/Harrison, EPCIP project ASTROM and FP7 / AFTER project (2012-2015), on power system risks coming from extreme events. Furthermore he was deeply involved in the UE projects iTesla and BestPath.
He has published over 60 scientific papers and reports he has been referee and session chair in several international conferences.
